Background
Born in Rochester, Minnesota, the daughter of two dedicated and heart-centered physicians at a world-renowned medical center, I have had a lifelong interest in the areas of health and healing. An integral part of my childhood were “mystical” or “spiritual” experiences, which fostered a realization that science can explain many, but not all, things— that science is not the only pathway to healing and wholeness.
With several notions about justice and making a difference, my first career choice was to become an attorney and certified Mediator. I practiced law and Mediation for over eleven years, specializing in corporate law and specifically in estate planning. Consequently, I have had the opportunity to work with many wonderful clients and their families who have been advanced in age, in the midst of chronic or life-threatening illnesses, and/or facing end-of-life situations. Witnessing the experiences and challenges of clients continued my education and encouraged my interest in healthcare.
A few years into my practice of law, I became ill from the typical overwork and under-sleep of an associate attorney. I was diagnosed with “chronic fatigue”, and informed I would never hold a full-time job. Refusing to believe anything permanent about the state of my health, however, I began to delve into various “alternative” or “integrative” health modalities. Already with a daily meditation practice, I began learning Qigong, as well as “food-based” healing. A year from my diagnosis, I ran my first marathon.
Shortly thereafter, what I had believed to be my career path began to diversify. I became certified as an instructor in Qigong and Meditation, received training and certification in Mediumship (or “channeling”), as well as certifications in several energy-based healing modalities (including Reiki, Quantum Touch, Healing Touch, and Sound Therapy). I practiced and taught evenings and weekends, continuing to learn and to participate in others’ journeys to wellness and wholeness.
Education in Chinese Medicine
As my interest in health & healing, including esoteric or spiritually-based pathways, intensified, I made the decision to attend a full-time four-year program in Chinese Medicine in Asheville, NC, a school emphasizing a strong science and western medical background, in addition to Classical and Traditional Chinese medicine. During our final two years of the program, we had the opportunity to spend over 800 supervised hours seeing patients.
I am currently a licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.) in the state of North Carolina, and Nationally Board Certified in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine) by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Practice
To all things there is a point of balance~ and in that balance is found health, peace, and joy!!
My goal is for each patient to reclaim a sense of wholeness and empowerment.
I believe that the human mind and body are extraordinary, with truly LIMITLESS potential for health and healing on every level~ physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This healing happens most effectively and efficiently when given the most appropriate tool or tools for a specific individual and situation; whether that is conventional Western medicine, Chinese medicine, other alternative modalities, dietary therapy, spiritual practices or prayer, or a combination thereof.
Accordingly, I incorporate Herbal medicine, nutritional therapy, stone (crystal) medicine, essential oils, sacred geometry and “esoteric” acupuncture, sound therapy, mantras and prayer, as well as qigong, guided meditation, and various other energy or vibrational therapies into my practice.
